In Brahms' First Symphony, second movement, the 1st horn has a duet with the violin during the first phrase of this excerpt. The second phrase is a horn solo.

Horn I in C

The last movement solo is over muted strings. The second horn player plays whole notes at the same time the first has the dotted half notes in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th bars of the example. The effect is of one continuous line.
