En.wiki FlaggedRevs trial

Hi, and welcome to Wikimedia labs! This wiki is running a demonstration version of FlaggedRevisions, a MediaWiki extension to provide better control and handling of wiki edits. This page has been configured to closely approximate the behavior of the proposed implementation on the English Wikipedia. See that proposal for specific details.

How to experiment

To see how FlaggedRevisions will look if it is enabled on en.wiki, you need to follow a few simple steps to set yourself up with a working account here :

1. Register an account.
   • If you have a global account, you will already have an account in the same name here, but you may not be logged in. Try logging in using your global username and password.
   • If you do not have a global account, create a local account.
2. Give yourself the user rights. On this test wiki, users can promote themselves to 'reviewer' status. Go to Special:UserRights and fill in your user name. On the page that follows, you see checkboxes corresponding to all the user groups that are available on this wiki. Most of them can only be set by bureaucrats or stewards, but the 'reviewer' group is available (as is 'uber-reviewer', which has no analog in the en.wiki implementation; don't add it, it will only confuse the issue). Tick the checkbox next to the 'reviewer' group and click "save user groups".
3. Purge your cache:
   • On Internet Explorer, Firefox/Mozilla & Safari: press Ctrl+F5
   • Konqueror: click Reload or press
   • Opera: clear the cache in Tools → Preferences
   • Safari (OS-X): select Empty Cache from the Safari menu
4. Get experimenting! Remember that only a few pages have been correctly configured to display the same behavior as the en.wiki trial will; this page is one of them, so edit away!!

A few points

• Most of en.labs content consists of an old copy of the en.wikibooks database. It has no active community and no governing policies other than the Wikimedia-wide policies mandated by the Foundation, foremost of which is one analogous to WP:BLP on en.wiki. Essentially, feel free to trash the place (not just this page, everywhere if you want!) but avoid libel.
• En.labs is also currently testing an experimental diff system that does visual comparisons between different versions. Cool though this is, it's not part of FlaggedRevisions.
• The way FlaggedRevs is configured here on en.labs is not exactly the same as the proposed en.wiki implementation. There are a number of discrepancies which have been covered up using CSS and JavaScript. If you do not have JavaScript enabled, you will find the interface is rather different to how it 'should' be.
